Young and his family are attacked by Sub-Zero only to be rescued by Jax who has his arms torn apart by Sub-Zero. Once Shang Tsung is aware of the ancient prophecy foretelling Cole Young’s role, he sets his warriors loose to kill all Earthrealm champions with a dragon tattoo. The plot itself is pretty straightforward. Raiden tells him that he’s a descendant of the Hasashi bloodline prophesied to stave off Earthrealm’s defeat. There’s a new addition to the roster with Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a former MMA champion now fighter for hire with a mysterious dragon tattoo that was born with. Turns out Earthrealm is one defeat away from being invaded. One realm can conquer another after defeating its greatest warriors in 10 consecutive tournaments known as Mortal Kombat. Three mentioned in this movie are Netherrealm (incidentally, the name of the studio that made the games) also known as Hell, Earthrealm (where the good guys are), and Outworld (where the villains are). Like most Mortal Kombat fans would know, the movie also has multiple realms. It starts off in 17th century Japan with the assassination of Hasashi’s family by Bi-Han and soon enough, fast forwards to present day what with the likes of Raiden, Shang Tsung, Goro, Kabal, Mileena, Kano, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Raiden, Jax Briggs, Nitara, and Sonya Blade making an appearance as well. The Mortal Kombat movie focussed on the rivalry between Sub Zero aka Bi-Han and Scorpion also known as Hanzo Hasashi.
